Agora School Madrid – More than a class – Sports
For students at Agora International School Madrid, sport is integrated into the curriculum. The natural environment which surrounds our school is perfect for participation in the programme of sporting activities that we offer, through which the pupils develop knowledge and values while they have fun and build relationships with their classmates.
“Our pupils’ all-round education wouldn’t be complete if it didn’t encompass all aspects of personal development: cognitive, physical, artistic, social… and through sport, we work on them all. Proof of this is the promotion of these activities, such as the Olympic Games, one of the most important events of the academic year in which the best athletes from all our schools compete in a wide variety of sports. All of this takes place in an atmosphere of friendship and togetherness, something which makes this an unforgettable experience for our pupils.”
Sports at NACE Schools help pupils to develop and strengthen values such as perseverance, self-improvement, teamwork and co-operation. In P.E, our pupils take part in games and sports such as baseball, hockey, rugby, acrosport, dodgeball, badminton, table tennis and ultimate frisbee as well as football, basketball, volleyball and handball, and they participate in the “P.E Olympics”, which are competitions against their classmates.
To complement their P.E classes, Agora International School Madrid also offers their pupils judo, tennis, football, basketball, volleyball and chess sports schools.
We view swimming as one of the best forms of exercise for overall physical development, and that’s why at Agora International School Madrid it is an important sport. It is incorporated into P.E classes, so all pupils from Primary up to and including the second year of Secondary Education take part in swimming classes during school hours. The youngest pupils, aged three to six, can start swimming as an extracurricular activity.
In team sports, our pupils have Agora International Sport Club available to them, whose football, basketball and volleyball teams compete in friendly matches and in leagues in the Community of Madrid.
Pupils at Agora International School Madrid also enjoy numerous sporting events over the course of the school year: hiking in the Madrid Sierra, cycling routes in “Casa de Campo”, Activity Sessions and Competitions in English in Retiro Park, skiing and snowboarding weeks in Andorra, charity races for UNICEF, and sports days.
Every year, Agora International Madrid takes part in the NACE Olimpic Games, a competition organised by NACE which promotes sport and international education while welcoming pupils of different nationalities, cultures and languages from all the schools in the NACE group.
